Introducing the Short Domain Finder

Every time someone wants to set up a custom domain for their short links, the conversation eventually lands in the same place:

Looking to Create Short URLs?

T.LY is the best link shortener service to track, brand, and share short URLs.

Create Short Links

“I want something short. Like… really short. Clean. Easy to type. Easy to remember. But it seems like every good option is taken.”

And I get it. A great short domain is the difference between a link that looks polished on a billboard, business card, podcast ad, or QR code… and one that looks like you copied and pasted your DNS settings into the URL.

The problem is that finding a good short domain is usually a grind. You bounce between registrars, try a bunch of names, switch TLDs, get hit with “taken,” start adding hyphens, regret everything, and suddenly you’re 45 minutes deep with nothing to show for it.

So… We built a tool to make that part quick and easy.

Meet the Short Domain Finder

Short Domain Finder is a simple way to scan short, available domains across a huge list of popular TLDs, with filters that keep the results practical (and affordable).

Instead of guessing, refreshing, and hunting one registrar at a time, you can:

  • Search by a word or short string (like ab) or by an exact domain (like ab.io)

  • Limit by length (ex: “5 letters or less”)

  • Set a max purchase price and renewal price so you don’t fall in love with something that renews for a small mortgage

  • Exclude numbers and hyphens to keep your domain clean and brandable

  • Pick which TLDs you want to search (and there are a lot—hundreds)

And the results are laid out the way you actually need them: domain name, length, purchase price, and renewal price, so you can compare options at a glance.

Why is this especially useful for T.LY users

If you use T.LY, you already know the value of short links—clean redirects, better tracking, better branding, and links that don’t look suspicious. But sometimes the T.LY url you want is already taken, so owning your own short domain gives you endless possibilities.

But when you connect a custom domain in T.LY, your domain becomes the front door to every link you share.

A short custom domain helps you:

  • Make links look intentional and trustworthy (brand.io/deal just reads better)

  • Keep links readable in tight spaces (social posts, SMS, printed material)

  • Create a consistent link identity across campaigns and channels

  • Build brand recognition with every share

The Short Domain Finder is basically the missing step between “I want a custom domain” and “I have the perfect one.”

The workflow is dead simple

Here’s how most people will use it:

  1. Search a few short options (your initials, a short brand shorthand, a campaign keyword, etc.)

  2. Filter down by length + price + no hyphens/numbers

  3. Pick a domain that’s short and memorable

  4. Register it

  5. Connect it inside T.LY as your custom domain

  6. Start publishing links that look like they were designed on purpose

That’s it!

A small detail that saves a lot of time

One of my favorite parts is the TLD control.

Some people want the classics. Some people want something modern. Some people just want whatever is available that’s short and doesn’t cost a fortune to renew.

Being able to quickly include/exclude groups of TLDs (and filter within them) makes this tool feel less like “search” and more like “shopping with guardrails.”

If you’ve been putting off getting a custom domain…

This is your nudge.

A short custom domain is one of those upgrades you feel immediately—your links look better, your brand looks sharper, and sharing is just easier. The Short Domain Finder removes the most annoying part of the process.
